*Definitions: •value-the lightness or darkness of a piece of art •composition-the arrangement and placement of the piece of art, which is separate from the subject of the piece *Most Helpful Warm-Up: For me, the most helpful warm-up was the blind contour face because it helped me focous on drawing exactly what I saw, instead of worrying about what it looked like. It also helped me to realize that it's okay to make mistakes in art. *Charcoal Drawing -pros •easy to fix mistakes because you were able to blend any problems into the back ground •easy to make highlights using an eraser •can get dark shadows using the thick charcoal -cons •charcoal is extremely messy and will get all over your hands and work space •charcoal is easily smudged so if you accidently brush your hand against the paper, your work will smudge *Pencil drawing -pros •you have different hardness levels that allow you to either make crisp lines or blendable lines •it is easy to fix with an eraser -cons •you have to be able to determine exactly what pencil hardness you need for each section of the piece •can easily be smudged *Pen drawing
-pros •looks amazing when using techniques such as stippling, hatching , cross hatching and random line •easily control where highlights and shadows are -cons •if you make a mistake, you can't fix. it easily •it takes more time than charcoal and pencil drawings since you have to draw the peice in pencil first, then you use the pen to go over it This artist, Nicolas Sanchez, who is based in New York City, exicutes exquisite peices of art. He creates a wide variety of artwork, including anything from hyperrealistic to even abstract. In the picture above, he used only ball point pens as his medium. Although he uses ball point pens as his medium often, he uses a wide variety of mediums ranging from charcoal to oil paints. In the picture below, he used charcoal as his medium. Sanchez received his art training from both Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, MI and the New York Academy of Art. His talent was quickly spotted by Altos de Chavon,( a school of art and design), in the Dominican Republic, where he soon worked and taught. Soon after he graduated, Nicolas was also awarded the 2014 New York Academy of Art Post-Graduate Fellowship Award. His artwork inspires me because he doesn't specialize in only one style of art, and he uses a wide variety of mediums. Sanchez uses teachniques we learned such as hatching in his ball pen art. Some of his art looks like it could pop right off the paper, while his other art work isn't as detailed.
